Call it a belated birthday present! On Wednesday, the Recording Academy announced that it will honor Sean “Diddy” Combs with its Salute to Industry Icons award ahead of the 2020 Grammys. “For nearly three decades, Diddy has fused his boundless creativity and sharp entrepreneurial spirit to create timeless art and build brands and institutions that have shifted our global music culture,” says Recording Academy CEO Deborah Dugan.

“Diddy has persistently empowered other music creators and we’re honored to celebrate his culture-shaping impact at this year’s pre-Grammy gala.” That gala will take place on January 25, while the 2020 Grammys will air live from L.A.’s Staples Center on Sunday, January 26, at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on CBS. Previous Salute to Industry Icons recipients include JAY-Z, Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss, and Antonio “L.A.” Reid.
