5.8 Earthquake Strikes Near Lone Pine
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday morning in Inyo County. The tremor hit 11 miles SSE of Lone Pine in the Mohave Desert at 10:40AM. The earthquake was felt widely throughout the Bakersfield area with reports of strong jolts and swaying motions. Dozens of aftershocks have hit the area including a 4.6 shaker that hit just before 11AM. USGS says that this is the same area that had a 4.6 earthquake 2 days ago and now say that one is considered a foreshock
We have not heard yet of damage in the area.
We just had a 5.8 #earthquake in CA that was preceded by a smaller, 4.6 EQ 2 days ago. So the earlier earthquake is now called a foreshock, & this is now a main shock… unless something bigger follows this one. Listen to this week's episode to understand how EQs are named. https://t.co/C7nTdjOsjj
