The coronavirus epidemic has not only led to a rush on hospital masks and hand sanitizer; it’s also caused the 2011 medical thriller Contagion to crack the top 10 on the digital charts. The Washington Post reports that Stephen Soderbergh’s dystopic feature film was at #8 on iTunes as of Thursday–but do you really want to watch a movie right now about a worldwide pandemic?
The folks over at the blog The Cut say, “Definitely don’t watch Contagion…[It} accurately depicts the danger of widespread panic, prejudice and misinformation during a pandemic, specifically via the internet and social media.” On the other hand, The Detroit Free Press says, “Watching Contagion will freak you out amid coronavirus fears, but it’s worth it.”
